Memory & learning

Effective learning can be developed through the successful transfer of information from STM to LTM. To pass information to LTM you need to:

  • learn a bit at a time
  • automate - practise regularly so it becomes automatic
  • organise information - chunk parts together to build the big picture. One wall not 200 bricks.

Memory involves the following:

  • selection - identifying the main ideas
  • organisation - how secondary ideas, examples etc fit into main ideas
  • review - understanding of concepts and information
  • recall of information - accessing memory when needed, eg in an exam.
