Using heading styles

Word has pre-formatted heading styles in the style section of the formatting toolbar. The drop down menu gives you quick access to the styles. Generally, Heading 1 is used for higher level or section headings, eg Chapter 1, while Heading 3 is used for sub-headings.

Applying a heading style

  1. Type text for heading
  2. Select (highlight) text
  3. Click on Styles drop-down menu
  4. Select the (heading) style to apply to the text.
