Isolating valves

Isolating valves are used to control the flow of water from mains to any water service pipe. Any isolating valve installed within a property is required to be in an accessible location. The location of an isolating valve can vary based on the type and location of the water service that you are installing as shown below.

  • each appliance
  • a thermostatic mixing valve
  • a pumping apparatus
  • the inlet of a storage tank
  • the outlet of a storage tank (where capacity exceeds 50 L)
  • each pumping apparatus.

An isolating valve is required to be located at:

  • each branch serving individual buildings
  • each branch serving each floor in buildings of two or more storeys
  • each group of fixtures
  • each standpipe.

An isolating valve is required to be located at:

  • each water main
  • or near the property boundary
  • each hose reel
  • pumping apparatus.
